DebtFree Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
DebtFree ("the app") is built and operated by Certified Scripts ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles and — just as importantly — what it never does.
The short version: DebtFree stores everything you enter — debts, payments, income, expenses — only on your own device. There is no user account, no server, no cloud sync, and we cannot see your data. Nothing is sold or shared with third parties.
What data the app handles
- Debt and payment information you enter — names, balances, interest rates, due dates, payment history. Stored in a local file on your device.
- Income and budget figures you enter — used only to calculate your payoff plan and safe-to-spend figure on your device.
- Expenses you enter or that are captured automatically (see below) — amount, merchant, category, date.
None of the above ever leaves your device unless you explicitly export a backup file yourself (see "Backup" below).
Automatic expense capture (optional, off by default)
If you turn on "Automatic capture" in Settings, DebtFree requests the Android Notification Listener permission. This lets the app read the text of notifications from your SMS app and a fixed list of UAE bank apps, so it can detect transaction messages (e.g. "Purchase of AED 50 at Carrefour") and log them as expenses automatically.
- All parsing happens entirely on your device. No notification content, SMS text, or transaction data is ever transmitted anywhere.
- The app ignores every notification from apps not on its allow-list (SMS apps and named UAE bank apps) — it does not read your other notifications.
- Declined transactions, OTPs, marketing messages, and balance/credit alerts are detected and discarded, not stored.
- You can turn this off at any time in Settings, which also stops the listener.
- Limitations: not every bank or message format is recognised, cash purchases and some transfers will not appear, and amounts may occasionally differ slightly from your official bank statement. Always confirm your real balances with your bank.
Notifications
DebtFree schedules local reminders (e.g. "payment due in 3 days") using Android's local notification system. These are generated and delivered entirely on your device and do not involve any external server.
Backup and restore
The Settings screen lets you export a backup file containing all your data, so you can save it yourself (e.g. to Google Drive, email, or a file manager) or move to a new phone. This file is created and shared using Android's standard share sheet — DebtFree does not upload it anywhere on its own. You are responsible for keeping this file secure, since it contains your financial information.
What we do not do
- We do not collect, transmit, or have access to any of your debt, income, or expense data.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs that transmit personal data off-device.
- We do not sell or share data with advertisers or any third party — there are no advertisers.
- We do not require or create a user account.
- We do not link to your bank account or use Open Banking / bank APIs.
Children
DebtFree is a personal finance tool intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and, for material changes, we will note it in the app's release notes.
